Washington, DC –  Following the release by Mayor Bowser of the 2019 budget proposal, which confirms that the Mayor will explore all available avenues to ensure that Washington D.C. meets its commitment of $178 million in dedicated funds, the MetroNow Coalition released the following statement:

“Last week, with a historic announcement in her State of the District speech that Washington D.C. would pledge its full $178 million share of new dedicated funds for Metro, Mayor Bowser has demonstrated the leadership needed in the District and across the Greater Washington region to address Metro’s long-term challenges.

Today, with the release of her administration’s fiscal year 2019 budget proposal, Mayor Bowser formalized this commitment by including sufficient, long-term, dedicated, and bondable funding sources in her budget. Beginning this week, the DC Council will begin its deliberation of the District’s 2019 budget and the MetroNow Coalition looks forward to working with District leaders to finalize this proposal.

The MetroNow Coalition thanks Mayor Bowser for her longstanding leadership on this issue and for taking bold action to guarantee the safe and reliable Metro service that Washington D.C. needs to grow and thrive far into the future.”
